It's official! On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, we became the proud owners of the property at 740 Verna Street in Jasper! With gracious help from the Texas Annual Conference and donations from our own members, we were able to purchase the property in cash! We couldn't have done it without an outstanding team who donated of their time and energy to help us make this a reality.
The building will need some minor renovations before we begin holding services in the sanctuary. Keep an eye out for news on work days so that we can shower our new home with love!
At the May 14th service, Robert Besser, treasurer of the Texas Annual Conference, announced to the UMC of the Pines congregation that we had been awarded a Grant from the conference in the amount of $125,000 to go toward the purchase of our new building!
We have officially chartered! As of Sunday, April 23, 2023, on the 55th Birthday of the United Methodist Church, The United Methodist Church of the Pines chartered, with 74 members, 4 preparatory members, and 3 ministers attached! Afterwards, the rain and the chill couldn't keep us from having a celebratory meal and praising God for His blessings!
Sam Hodges from umnews.org recently visited United Methodist Church of the Pines to see our new church plant and get to know our church family. He spoke to Reverend Neff and several church members to find out what makes our new church community such a special place to worship.
The article and photos highlight Reverend Neff's spirit of faith and devotion, and his journey back from his double lung transplant to lead our new church as we work to maintain the United Methodist presence in Southeast Texas--a presence that seeks to remind that ALL people are welcome at the Lord's Table.
From the article, "The joy the United Methodist Church of the Pines folks feel at worshipping together is clear during the service — and afterward.
“Nobody leaves,” said Luanne Talbot. “Everybody just wants to be together and talk.”"
